Magic Moment of the Day: The Final

New Delhi : There was only one magical moment on this day. Captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni took a huge gamble by giving the very last over of the match to the inexperienced Joginder Sharma. Veteran off-spinner Harbhajan Singh had one over left in the bag but wasn’t preferred due to his inconsistent bowling in the match.

Pakistan needed 13 runs to win off the last over. The very first delivery was a wide ball outside the off stump which was left alone by the batsman. The next delivery was a dot ball, with the pressure mounting on Misbah-ul-Haq and all the Indian players.

The next delivery was a full-toss outside the off-stump – WHACK! Misbah stroked a huge six, almost to crash all of India’s hopes. Pakistan needed just 6 runs of 4 deliveries after the thumping blow.

Joginder followed up by bowling yet another full-toss….but this time, it was well directed and on the stumps. Misbah-ul-Haq decided to shuffle in the crease and scoop the ball to fine leg. Unfortunately for him, Sreesanth was standing at short fine-leg and made no mistake in grasping on to the catch. IT WAS ALL OVER!

Animated reactions at the Wanderers in Johannesburg – the Indian players were thrilled to bits as they should be after clinching the inaugural ICC World Twenty20 Championship.
