This examination is held twice a year generally in the months of March/ April and November/December for the course starting from the coming July and January respectively, for recruitment to the post of Naviks (other Ranks) in the General Duty and Domestic Branch of Indian Coast Guard. Coast Guard is an Armed Force of the Union.

Age limit
17 to 22 years as on July lor January 1- the day of the commencement of the course. The upper age limit is relaxable by 5 years for SC/ST candidates. Ex. Servicemen are eligible for relaxation of upper age limit as admissible.

Minimum Educational Qualification
(a) General Duty Branch (GD) : Should have passed lOth Class in 10 + 2 + 3 scheme or equivalent;
(b) Domestic Branch (DB) : Should have passed 8th class (Candidates who have secured less than 55% marks ( 45 per cent for SC/ST) in the qualifying examinations need not apply).

Physical Standards
(i) Height : Minimum 157 cms, may be reduced by 5 cms in the case of Gorkhas, Nepalese, Assamese (including those from Nagaland, Mizorarn, Meghalaya, Arurtachal Pradesh, Manipur, Tripura), Garhwalese, Sikkimese, local tribals of Andaman and Nicobar Islands, and by 2 cms in case of candidates from Lakshadives, Mainland settlers in Andaman and Nicobar and candidates joining the Coast Guard on secondment from other Government departments;

(ii) Chest : Should be well proportioned. Minimum expansion 5 cms;

(iii) Weight : Proportionate to height and age (+10 per cent acceptable); (iv) Eye Sight: General Duty 6/6 (Good eye) and 6/9 (Bad eye); Domestic Branch 6/18 (Good eye) and 6/36 (Baa eye). Candidates using glasses are not eligible for GD Branch.

Other Information
Shortlisted candidates will be called for selection tests interview within reasonable time at convenient Centres. The place and date of test will be intimated to candidates through call-up letters. Selection will be made on the basis of marks obtained in Written Examination and Interview by the Selection Board. Candidates have to undergo initial Medical Examination of the Board.
