Chennai : The University College, London (UCL), the Banyan Academy of Leadership in Mental Health (BALM) and the Institute of Financial Management and Research are planning to offer a post-graduate course in social development.
This was decided after a memorandum of understanding was signed by representatives of UCL and BALM on various areas of collaborations, in Chennai on Monday.
After signing the MoU, Michael Worton, vice-provost of UCL, said, “In this intensive master’s degree, the students will study at UCL for six months and then come down to BALM for a project.” The course is expected to be launched by 2008.
The Banyan will be the facilitator for those who take up the course. Banyan has networked with 75 NGOs across the country so that students students may take up projects in any of these places.
With the MoU, UCL and BALM are also planning for a short-term course on Mental Health. The institutions will jointly develop this course.
There will also be a collaboration for a student and faculty exchange programme, internship and research.
UCL will also provide support in academics and in programme development for the BALM-MBA in Social Development, said the MoU.
