New coach to be in place by month-end: BCCI
Jamshedpur, Confirming that John Wright was all set to step down as India's coach after the ongoing one-day series against Pakistan, the Cricket Board today said it was soon going to start the process of hiring a new coach who would be appointed by the month-end.
"We are very much hopeful of appointing a new coach by the end of April after the ongoing one-day series against Pakistan is over," BCCI secretary S K Nair told PTI here.
Nair said the process of finding the new coach would begin soon and the final decision would be taken by the BCCI's Working Committee.
He, however, refused to disclose the names of Wright's probable successors.
"I am not going to tell you whether we have short-listed some. Nor will I tell you whether the new person will be a foreigner or an Indian." Nair said that the BCCI officials had not held any meetings with Greg Chappell in this regard.
The BCCI official also ruled out making a request to Wright to reconsider his decision.
"He has been saying that he wanted more time with his family. So, we have no other option but to agree to his plea for release," Nair said.
Wright has had a very succesful stint as the Indian coach. Under the former Kiwi skipper, India finished joint winners of the Champions Trophy and runners up in the last World Cup.
The team also stopped the dream run of the Steve Waugh-led Australian team beating them in a home series in 2001 before prevailing over Pakistan in both the Test as well as the one-day series last year.
