Permanent Commission
A Permanent Commission means a career in the Army till you retire. For a Permanent commission you have to join the National Defence Academy or the Indian Military Academy.

INDIAN MILITARY ACADEMY, DEHRADUN. The Indian Military Academy is yet another cradle of leadership. To get into IMA, you have to pass the Combined Defence Services exam. You can take this exam in your final year in college.There are two main entry schemes --- the Graduate Direct Entry Scheme and the Technical Graduates Entry Scheme. The duration of training is one year in the case of Technical Graduates Entry Scheme and NDA Gentleman cadets. For the Direct Entry Scheme, it's one and a half years.
The IMA trains you to lead from the front. You are trained in all aspects of combat and tactics using computers and other modern training tools.
The IMA has excellent facilities for all-round development. You can go for adventure sports like river rafting, para jumping, rock climbing, trekking and mountaineering.

Short Service Commission
You also have the option of joining the Army and serving as a Commissioned officer for 5 years.
At the end of this period you have two options. Either to elect for a Permanent Commission or opt out. Those not selected for Permanent Commission have the option of a 5-year extension. They can resign at any time during this period.

OFFICERS TRAINING ACADEMY, CHENNAI.
Once selected for Short Service Commission, you go to the Officers Training Academy at Chennai. The selection process is very simple. A written exam followed by the SSB interview and the medicals. The selection procedure for Technical (Engineering) graduates is slightly different. After the initial screening of applications by Army Headquarters, the short-listed candidates take the SSB interview. SSB qualified candidates undergo a medical examination. The duration of training is approximately 9 months. OTA trains you to be a first-class officer, provides you with opportunities to broaden your perspective and widen your horizons. Whether it's skeet-shooting, golf, riding or angling... at OTA you can do it all.
SPECIAL SCHEME FOR WOMEN (OFFICERS)

Recruitment in the Army is carried out on bi-monthly basis through Application System by HO Recruiting Zones and Training Centres. Screening process is carried out by a Board of Officers comprising Branch Recruiting Officer (BRO)/Recruiting Officer (RO) and two independent members from local Formation/Units. Dispensation of Physical Standards
The following are eligible for relaxations in physical standards :

(d) Outstanding sportsmen (National/State level sportsmen and those who have represented District/ College/School in State/University/ Board Championship and earned 1st/2nd position).

Medical Standards
A candidate should have robust physique and good mental health. Chest should be well developed having minimum 5 Cms expansion. Should have normal hearing with each ear and good binocular vision in both eyes. He should be able to read 6/6 in distant vision chart with each eye. Colour vision should be CP-III. Should recognize red and green colours. Should have sufficient number of natural healthy gum and teeth i.e. minimum 14 dental points. Should not have disease like deformity of bones, hydrocele and varicocle or piles.
Physical Fitness Tests(PFT)
To determine the Physical Fitness, the following tests carrying 100 marks are held :-

Written Examination
Common Entrance Examination (CEE) is conducted on 4th Sunday of Jan, Mar, May, Jul. Sep & Nov. for recruitment of Soldiers. It comprises of following two papers:
(a) Paper -I - Compulsory for all soldier categories. (b) Paper -II - For Soldier Technical,Soldier Clk (GD/SKT) and Soldier Nursing Assistant.
Paper-l: Paper-l generally comprises of two sections. Section 1. It generally comprises of questions on IQ/Numerical ability (60 marks) and Section 11 generally comprises of questions on general knowledge and current affairs (40 marks). Duration of paper is 45 minutes.
Paper II: Paper-II is prepared category-wise. Paper II (Sol Tech) - 100 marks. It generally comprises of Physics, Chemistry and Maths.
Paper II (Sol Clk/SKT) - 100 marks. It generally comprises of Maths & English (Language Proficiency).
Paper II (Sol Nursing Assistant) - 100 marks. It generally comprises Chemistry, Botany & Biology Duration of each paper is 60 minutes.
In addition to paper 1, a Sol Tech, Sol Clk/Skt and Sol Nursing Assistant has to qualify in their respective paper.
ADMISSION TO DENTAL COURSES All India (C.B.S.E.) Pre-Medical/Pre-Dental Entrance Examination
The Central Board of Secondary Education (C.B.S.E.), New Delhi conducts All India Entrance Examination for admission to 15% seats in Dental Colleges run by Government Municipal and local authorities except the states of Andhra Pradesh and Jammu & Kashmir
Eligibility : Indian Nationals of 17 years of age on December 31 of the years of admission. Qualification: 12 years Senior Secondary Examination with 50% (40 % for Scheduled Castes/Tribes) aggregate marks in English, Physics, Chemistry and Biology taken together or B.Sc. with any two subjects Physics, Chemistry, Biology (Botany & Zoology) with 50% marks and Physics, Chemistry, Biology and English passed at Higher Secondary. Candidates who have appeared at the qualifying examination are also eligible. Candidates should be medically fit. Entrance Examination : The examination consists of two papers one in Physics & Chemistry, and Botany & Zoology. The questions are of objective type with negative marks for incorrect response. The medium of examination is Hindi and English. The Centres of the examination are Agartala, Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Bhopal, Bhubaneswar, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chandigarh, Delhi, Guwahati, Imphal, Itanagar, Jaipur, Lucknow, Chennai, Nagpur, Port-Blair, Patna, Panaji, Pondicherry, Shimla, Shillong and Thiruvananthapuram.
The CBSE forwards a copy of the merit list to the Director General of Health Services who allocates the seats at Dental Colleges.
All India Entrance for PG seats in Medical Colleges This examination is conducted by All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi in January/February at 26 different centers all over the country for admission to 25% of seats for post graduate courses in all Dental Colleges run by the Central/State Governments, Municipal or other local authorities except the States of Jammu & Kashmir, Andhra Pradesh, A.I.I.M.S., PGI Chandigarh and private medical colleges.

ANDHRA PRADESH Admission to B.D.S. (Bachelor of Dental Surgery) in the State is made through Engineering, Agricultural, Medical & Pharmacy Common Entrance Test (EAMCET). This test is conducted by one of the State Universities. Government Dental College & Hospital, Afzalganj, Hyderabad-500012. Domicile: India nationals of Andhra Pradesh, candidates who have resided in the State for ten years excluding periods of study outside the state; candidates either of whose parents/spouses of those in State/Central, Public Sector, Local Bodies, Universities employment within the State at the time of application. Admission to first year BDS Course is made through State level selection Board. This course is available at :Regional Dental College, Guwahati-781032.
