Teacher's thrashing injures student badly on his head
Chennai : A Class 9 student of a school in a southern suburb was severely beaten by his teacher for not bringing a notebook to class on Tuesday. He was immediately taken to a private hospital nearby and treated for his wounds. "Severe action will be taken against the teacher," school authorities said.
According to sources, Gokul, student of a private school in Selaiyur, Jaigopal Garodia Higher Secondary School, on Tuesday forgot to bring a notebook. The teacher then hit him with a piece of wood that had come off a bench and was lying on the floor. The boy fell to the ground with blood oozing out of a wound on his head. His classmates said the shocked teacher took him to a private hospital where doctors put several stitches to close the wound. He was brought back to school after he regained consciousness.
Some of his classmates allegedly told Gokul's parents that the teacher then forced Gokul to wash his blood-soaked school uniform before leaving school. The teacher even asked Gokul not to tell his parents about the incident, they said. But the boy told his mother Sankari when she returned home after work. She was shocked to find her son's head bleeding and swollen.
On Wednesday, she went to meet the school authorities to complain against the teacher. She was asked to come back on Friday as the school was closed for Ayudha Pooja. However, Sankari was not convinced and went to the Selaiyur police station and lodged a complaint against the teacher.
Based on the complaint, the police registered a case and made inquiries. On Thursday, the school officials apologised to Sankari in front of the police. Later, she withdrew her complaint.
The school's joint secretary, S Rajendran, told The Times of India: "We have appointed a team to probe the issue. Initial inquiries revealed that the teacher was indeed guilty of the said offence. The school management will take severe action against the teacher."(TOI)
