New Delhi : A Class XII student of Ludlow Castle School and a young woman were killed in separate road accidents in the Capital on Tuesday.
Kashif Malik was crossing the road near Brajpuri Chowk in Gokulpuri to catch his school bus when he was run over by a Delhi Public School Indirapuram bus around 6-15 a.m. After hitting him, the vehicle rammed into the road divider. Kashif was rushed to Sushrut Trauma Centre near Chandgi Ram Akhara where he was declared dead on arrival.
The Gokulpuri police have registered a case of causing death due to rash and negligent driving and arrested the driver, Sunil Kumar. “Two students were travelling in the vehicle at the time of the accident,” said a police officer. Kashif’s father Kafeel Ahmed is a scrap dealer. He has two sisters and two brothers. Kashif was to appear in an examination under the Continuous and Comprehensive Evaluation Programme on Tuesday.
Woman dragged for some distance
In another accident reported around 10 a.m., a young woman came under the wheels of a low-floor DTC bus on the Bus Rapid Transport corridor in Chirag Dilli. The bus, plying on route 423 between Khanpur and Mori Gate, came to a halt after dragging the victim some distance. The woman, who was later identified as Manju Devi, sustained serious head injuries and was rushed to the All-India Institute of Medical Sciences where she was declared dead on arrival.
Angry local residents damaged the bus and beat up the driver, Bal Kishan, before handing him over to the police. He has been admitted to AIIMS for treatment. The police have registered a case and arrested him. Enquiries revealed that Manju used to work as a domestic help and lived in Chirag Dilli.(Thehindu)
