Advani not a national leader : Ex-BJP chief

New Delhi, (PTI) : Former BJP chief Jana Krishnamurthy has joined the chorus of voices speaking out against LK Advani, saying the former Deputy Prime Minister was no national leader but was merely heading a party that has "lost" its values and ideals. He also rejected Advani's comments in Chennai on RSS-BJP links, saying the Sangh does not interfere with the party affairs.

"But the party in the recent times has lost its traditional values and ideology. It lost Lok Sabha elections because of its neglect of these values," Krishnamurthy said in an interview to a weekly magazine.

"Unfortunately, there is no leader left in the country who enjoys the respect and confidence of the entire nation," the former BJP chief remarked.

Krishnamurthy, however, described former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee as an exception in this regard, but said his health dimmed expectations from him.

The former BJP President was in agreement with party General Secretary Pramod Mahajan's remarks about a lack of team leadership in the organisation.

"When I was heading the party, all policy decisions were arrived at after discussions with all senior colleagues. Pramod must have made these remarks on the basis of his experiences over the past three or four years," he added.

Krishnamurthy said the party owed its rise to power to its workers who the former BJP chief alleged were now feeling being sidelined. There is a rise in workers' grievances against the party, Krishnamurthy said.
