Parliament in 1950s and now: Sittings have shrunk

Hisar: Nationwide outrage continues to build over the delay in nabbing the 'upper caste' men who allegedly gangraped a 16-year-old Dalit girl in Hisar, Haryana. Seventeen days on, only two suspects have been arrested and booked.

After the National Commission for the Protection of Child Rights, the National Commission for Scheduled Castes has stepped in and the body has slammed Haryana Police for delayed action.

The National Commission for Scheduled Castes has given the police a week's time to arrest the remaining six suspects, failing which policemen should be suspended or transferred.

The 16-year-old Dalit girl was gangraped on September 9 by 8 men. The victim's distraught father later committed suicide. Her mother now wants the remaining suspects to be arrested.

Security is now being provided to the victim's family after they claimed they were being pressurised to praise the police investigation.

The district administration has denied the allegations and now promised all assistance to the victims family including a government job.
