Karnataka CM Shettar to meet PM over drought relief

New Delhi: In his first visit to Delhi after being sworn in as the Chief Minister of Karnataka, Jagdish Shettar will meet Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Tuesday to seek release of more funds from the Centre in the wake of the severe drought being faced by the State.

Earlier former CM DV Sadananda Gowda had come with an all-party delegation to New Delhi and had asked the Centre for Rs 5,000 crore to tackle drought in the state. The Centre had subsequently sanctioned Rs 286 crore and later granted Rs 70 crore to the state. Shettar has maintained that this amount is not enough to undertake relief works in an effective manner, as per reports.

Shettar will be accompanied by deputy CM KS Eshwarappa.
