Now Karnal shelter home shut after allegations of sexual abuse

New Delhi: Days after the shocking stories of abuse at the Apna Ghar shelter home in Rohtak, Haryana, another shelter in Karnal has been shut down after allegations of sexual and physical abuse surfaced.

A case has been registered against Monica Das, who runs the Apna Ghar shelter in Karnal. All the inmates, 6 boys and 5 girls, have been shifted to other shelter homes.

A medical examination showed that two children had abuse marks on their bodies. The doctors have submitted the medical reports to the police. Last year, three girls were shifted to another shelter home after they had complained that they were abused. No action was taken back then.

SHO Civil Lines Karnal Gurvinder Singh said, "Children complained that the manager of the house used to beat them mercilessly and ill treat them."
