412 Nepali Congress activists arrested Kathmandu, (PTI) : At least 412 activists of the Nepali Congress were today arrested across the country for holding protests against King Gyanendra's direct assumption of power and suspension of fundamental rights and press freedom. This is the largest number of activists arrested in a single swoop by the authorities across the Kingdom since the royal seizure of power on February one, Nepali Congress, the largest party of the Himalayan Kingdom claimed. As many as 200 Nepali Congress activists, including former MP Padma Narayan Chaudhari, were arrested from Dhanusha district, a party statement said here. Ten people, including former state minister Suresh Malla, were arrested from Kathmandu while 50 people, including former MP Ajay Kumar Chaurasia were held in Parsa district during the anti-government demonstrations, the statement said. Twenty seven party activists were arrested from Nawalparasi, 27 from Bardia, 25 from Dang, 15 from Arghakhachi, 13 Chitawan, 12 from Siraha, 10 from Kailali, nine from Tanahu, seven from Rupandehi and seven from Kaski, Nepali Congress said in a statement.
