Sikh leaders release white paper on SGPC

Amritsar : Sikh leaders yesterday the "white paper" and claimed it as a comprehensive summary of the functioning of the Shiromani Gurudwara Prabhandhak Committee.

Former MP Simranjit Singh Mann, Satnam Singh Paonta, Bhai Mohkam Singh of Dam Dami Taksal, Rajinder Singh and Daljit Singh jointly released the white paper in front of Akal Takht, the highest Sikh temporal seat.

They alleged that the newly elected SGPC chief was "a puppet" in the hands of Shiromani Akali Dal chief Parkash Singh Badal, and said the SGPC annual election was "a drama".

Makkar would not be able to discharge his duties independently, since he has to adhere to the guidelines of Badal, they said.

Terming the white paper as comprehensive summary of the functioning of the SGPC, they said that SGPC has failed to achieve the basic purpose of religious propagation.

The paper, complied by spokesperson of SAD-Amritsar Jagmohan Singh and Kanwarpal Singh, general secretary of the Dal Khalsa, contain chapters on setting parameters for the appointment and removal of the Jathedar of Akal Takht and other Sikh head priests.

It also highlights the 18 cases pending before the Sikh Gurdwara Judicial Commission regarding misappropriation of Gurdwara funds.

Scathingly attacking the budget procedures adopted by the SGPC, they demanded that a complete review and audit of the budget of the last two decades must be carried out.
