Ahmedabad : The stock market gloom claimed another victim in city with a young hotelier committing suicide this time in Ghatlodia area after two of
his friends lost money in the recent stock market crash. According to police, Darshan Patel, 35, a resident of Nilam Park, near Chinmay Towers on Gurukul Road, had lent money to some of his friends and brother-in-law who had invested it in the stock market.
Patel was found hanging from a ceiling fan in the bedroom of his duplex apartment when his mother went upstairs to wake him up on Sunday morning.
"We found a suicide note from his room. The note, however, does not bear his signature," said RC Mehta, inspector of Ghatlodia police station. Ghatlodia police station officials added that Patel was a partner in a hotel business which was going through a rough patch.
"He was the only earning member of his family. It seems that he lent a considerable amount of money, considering the language of his suicide note. He has alleged that two of his friends ditched him, leaving him helpless. Family members say that Patel was not directly involved in stock trade," said an official.
Family members also told police that since last week, Patel had been disturbed but did not mention a word to his mother or sister.
"His track record shows that he had weathered many ups and downs in life. But he was 35 and unmarried currently and had to take care of his family members. It was this socio-economic pressure that might have led him to taking the extreme step," said Mehta.
